Frequently Asked Questions

Below, you’ll find answers to commonly asked questions about IV therapy, our assessment process and what to expect when accessing our services.

1. What is IV vitamin therapy?

IV therapy involves administering fluids and, where clinically appropriate, prescribed substances directly into the bloodstream through a small intravenous cannula.

Every treatment requires an individual clinical assessment to determine whether IV therapy is suitable.

2. Does having an IV hurt?

You may experience a brief pinch or sting when the cannula is inserted. Discomfort varies between individuals.

Your practitioner will explain each stage of the procedure, monitor you throughout your infusion and address any concerns you may have.

3. Who administers the infusions?

IV treatments at Lily Pond Hydration are administered by appropriately qualified and registered healthcare practitioners working within their professional scope of practice.

4. Is IV therapy safe?

Like all medical procedures, IV therapy carries potential risks, including infection, bruising, inflammation of the vein, allergic reactions and other complications.

A clinical assessment is undertaken before treatment, and appropriate infection-control and monitoring procedures are followed.

5. How is IV therapy different from oral supplements?

Oral supplements are absorbed through the digestive system, while IV therapy delivers substances directly into the bloodstream.

Neither method is appropriate for everyone. The most suitable approach depends on your individual circumstances, clinical requirements and medical history.

6. How long does an infusion take?

Infusion times vary depending on the prescribed treatment and individual clinical requirements.

Your practitioner will discuss the expected duration before your appointment.

7. How often can I receive IV therapy?

There is no standard treatment frequency suitable for everyone.

Any recommendation for further treatment is based on your individual clinical assessment and whether there is an appropriate medical reason to proceed.

8. Can I receive IV therapy while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Lily Pond Hydration does not administer IV infusions if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

9. Is IV therapy regulated in Australia?

Yes. Registered healthcare practitioners must comply with applicable professional standards, including those overseen by Ahpra and the relevant National Boards.

Therapeutic goods are separately regulated under Australian legislation, including requirements administered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

10. Are there any medical conditions that may prevent me from receiving an infusion?

Certain health conditions, including kidney disease, heart conditions and some metabolic disorders, may make IV therapy unsuitable.

Your practitioner will review your medical history, medications and other relevant information before determining whether treatment can proceed.

11. What will my infusion contain?

Any proposed treatment is determined following an individual clinical assessment and, where required, a medical prescription.

Your practitioner will explain the prescribed substances, relevant risks and treatment process before obtaining your informed consent.

12. What if I have G6PD deficiency?

G6PD deficiency can affect the suitability of certain intravenous treatments.

Please disclose any known G6PD deficiency during your assessment. Additional medical advice or pathology testing may be required before treatment can be considered.

13. How do I know if IV therapy is suitable for me?

Suitability is determined through a clinical assessment that may include your medical history, medications, allergies, current health concerns and relevant pathology results.

Treatment will only be considered when there is an appropriate clinical basis for proceeding.

14. Where are appointments available?

Lily Pond Hydration provides a mobile IV service, with appointment being subject to availability, clinical suitability and the requirements of providing care in a safe environment.

15. Do you work with a doctor?

Yes. Lily Pond Hydration works collaboratively with medical practitioners for clinical review, prescribing and additional medical advice where required.

Treatment is only provided following the necessary clinical assessment and prescribing processes.

16. Do you provide iron infusions?

Please contact Lily Pond Hydration to enquire about the availability of this service.

17. Will I need blood tests before my infusion?

Blood tests may be required depending on your medical history and the treatment being considered.

Your practitioner will advise whether additional pathology or medical assessment is necessary before proceeding.

18. Will you need to contact my GP or specialist?

In some circumstances, we may recommend consulting your GP or specialist to obtain relevant clinical information.

We will seek your consent before contacting another healthcare professional about your care, except where disclosure is otherwise authorised or required by law.

19. Can a balanced diet provide the vitamins and minerals I need?

A balanced and varied diet remains an important foundation of good nutrition.

If you are concerned about a possible nutritional deficiency, an appropriately qualified healthcare professional can assess your needs and recommend suitable options.

IV therapy is not a substitute for a balanced diet or appropriate medical care.

20. How can I provide feedback or make a complaint?

We welcome feedback and take concerns about our services seriously.

Please contact Lily Pond Hydration directly using info@lilypondhydration.com.au

Concerns about a registered healthcare practitioner’s professional conduct may also be raised with Ahpra or the relevant health complaints authority.

21. Are results guaranteed?

No. Individual responses to medical treatment vary, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.

Our focus is on appropriate clinical assessment, informed consent, professional care and patient safety.

22. What happens if I experience a reaction?

Your practitioner will monitor you during treatment and respond appropriately if an adverse reaction occurs.

You will receive aftercare information, including symptoms that may require medical attention.

If you experience severe symptoms, difficulty breathing, collapse or a rapidly worsening reaction after treatment, call 000 immediately.

23. Can someone under 18 receive IV therapy?

No. Lily Pond Hydration only provides IV therapy to individuals aged 18 years and over. We do not offer IV treatments to anyone under the age of 18.

24. Why aren’t individual IV medicines listed on your website?

Australian Therapeutic Goods advertising laws restrict public advertising of certain medicines, including prescription-only medicines.

For this reason, Lily Pond Hydration does not publish a public menu of prescription IV medicines.

Any clinically appropriate treatment options will be discussed privately following an individual assessment, including the proposed treatment, associated risks and costs.
